Re: the Fair Oaks Recreation & Park District should adjust their watering times and methods or fix the problem with "Phoenix Dog Swamp"
isn't anyone else upset about the 2 inches of water that is always there now ? I for one cannot enjoy the park in this condition.
I was at the dog park again today and it's still a swamp !
I went to "Fair Oaks Rec & Park District" and "FO Chamber of Commerce" offices today and let them know about the water problem,
FO Rec & Park acted as though they had never heard of the problem and said it was probably just from the rain !
I told them it has been happening for months,
maybe there is an underground spring or leaky main,or screwed up sprinkler timers ?
and yes I have read this http://www.fordog.org/news.htm#FORPD and thats great except IMO 75% of all the grass area in all 3 sections are constantly flooded and un-usable !
it's not because of rain or the pool areas,
the upper levels for the soccer fields above the dog park and behind the VFW are always flooded too ! I have walked up there all around too . and this flooding is every time I have been there for several months now.
I care about this park, and my wife and I have volunteered for the benefit of the Phoenix DP,
I know dog parks very well,I have been to and continue to go to many dog parks in the Sacramento area as well as southern California, and this is the only one I have seen with this water problem.

Too much water, not enough water
I agree with your comments. FORDOG has complained about the maintenance of the park turf even before it opened in 2006. It's either so little water, that the turf dies, or so much water, it becomes a swamp. Promises are constantly made by the maintenance crew, then broken. When maintenance comes out to the facility, they can be standing in the water and say: what problem?
A lot of work has gone into this facility by Fair Oaks residents. Many people visit from around the county. Some people travel many miles because they prefer this dog park due to the attitude of the owners, the culture, and the layout. Major complaints: too wet (or too dry), and need more shade.
The shade issue was addressed on the 25th of this month. We have trees, but even that was a bit of a chore thanks to park district maintenance staff lack of interest. They promised they would not water that weekend (they're not supposed to be watering any weekend). What happened? They watered.
Complaints during the planting of the trees: The holds were full of water and lots of mud. It made the project much more difficult to complete. Cleanup was much more difficult and probably added an hour or more to the project.
The park district has a new administrator. Hopefully, she will do something about this issue. I was told she visited all of the park in Fair Oaks and walked out of the dog park with mud on her shoes. (Not surprising!) And still maintenance takes the position: What problem?
Lately, a lot more people have been calling the park district about the issue. Some actually go to the district offices and complain. One owner, we are told, went to the district office with his muddy dog. Has anything been done? NO!
E-Mailing or calling the park district is recommended. E-Mail is better as there is a paper trail.
It's election time. You can also e-mail the Fair Oaks Board of Directors. Information on contacting them: http://www.fairoakspark.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=15&Itemid=55
Please pass the word on how to contact the park district when you hear a complaint.
