Clipping Hair Coat Removes Natural Insulation

The following article was submitted by one of our FORDOG owners. The source came from the website: WWW.ANIMALHEALTHCARE.CA - a site sponsored by the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association.

A hair coat actually acts as insulation for a pet, keeping the cold out in winter and the heat out in summer. Clipping is not a good idea in dogs ...

Kira and I were at the park the other day and met some new friends who have just moved to the Gold River area and had found the dog park after something of an "extensive" search. The couple were very complementary of the park and were glad to have found it. Their only comment of concern was "...you could have better signage telling people where it (the dog park area in the park) is". They said it took "forever" to find it. So what would be the possibility of ...

Hello All,

I am sending this to all my friends & family with dogs. I put K9 Advantix, under 10lbs size, on Ginger & Rowdy, my toy poodles, on Tuesday afternoon. By the time we got home on Tuesday night, Ginger was in a full adverse reaction. She's exhibiting the "bent tail" and is twitching uncontrollably. Took Ginger to vet, gave us Valium for "anxiety". We're also giving her children's Benadryl.

By Thursday, Rowdy is exhibiting symptoms.

We went back to vet ...

Home Found UPDATED - 6/30/08

“ELVIS” Has found his permanent home. This older black and tan male Shiba was pulled from the Sacramento SPCA, spent a short amount of time in a foster home in Sacramento, and is now living in his permanent home in Reno, Nevada with the Northern Nevada Shiba Rescue folks. (Thanks Jack!). Those of us who worked on his rescue are delighted. According to Jack, Elvis is a real "sweetheart". He has medical problems ( bad knees, ...

Looking for someone in dog Rescue

by shibamutti Today at 4:16 pm

This weekend I have been working with other Shiba folks to find temporary foster home for an older male Shiba Inu currently being held at the SPCA.

Right now the Shiba Rescue is somewhat maxed out ( I can't take in another dog due to family reasons, but I'm trying to help with coordination.)

Situation: This male black and tan Shiba is 8-10 years old, and has what appears to back/leg problem with one rear leg. ...

BIG DOGS, LITTLE DOGS - WHO BELONGS WHERE?

One of the first things newcomers notice about our park is that it’s divided into three fenced sections:Areas 1, 2, and 3. As the posted signs indicate, one of the key distinctions between the three areas is dog size:

Area 1: Bigger Dogs

Area 2: Smaller Dogs

Area 3: Tiny Dogs

But a quick glance around the park on most days, and a closer reading of the signs for Areas 2 and 3, reveals that size is not the only factor determining which dogs go where. So—how do newcomers know where ...

Today is Easter, March 23rd, 2008. The weather is beautiful and the dogs are having loads of fun. But have you noticed lately that the condition of the grass is awful. There are large area where there is no grass at all. The ground is so dry it's like a dust bowl. It seems like the park district just can't get this right. The park is either dry, like a desert, or muddy, like a swamp.

I am a big fan of the dog park and think there should be more. Most everyone at this park is very ...

Book Review: Marcia Barkley

It needs to be said right up front that the author, Donald McCaig, is NOT a fan of the American Kennel Club. He is first and foremost a lover of dogs – specifically of Border Collies – and for a variety of reasons that you may or may not agree with, he firmly believes that the AKC contributes little of value to the dogs they claim to support.

So if you are a proud member of the AKC … if you enthusiastically support the goals of the AKC, are an AKC breeder, ...
